Ontologies by SeCo
The ontologies are the base for creating semantic web applications. As a part of SeCo's research projects, the ontologies below have been created either based on existing vocabularies or from scratch.
General ontologies
- The Finnish General Upper Ontology (YSO) - Yleinen suomalainen ontologia YSO
- The Actor Ontology (TOIMO) - Toimijaontologia TOIMO
- The Finnish Time-Location Ontology (SAPO) - Suomen ajallinen paikkaontologia SAPO
- The Finnish Geo-ontology (SUO) - Suomen paikkaontologia SUO
Culture
Variouas ontologies are being used and developed in our eCulture applications including:
- History Ontology (HISTO) - Historiaontologia (HISTO)
- ICONCLASS Ontology - Kuvataiteen ontologia
- Ontology for museum domain (MAO) - Museoalan ontologia MAO (MAO on Ontology Server)
- Ontology of Applied Arts (TAO) - Taideteollisuusalan ontologia TAO
- The Finnish Ontology of Photography VALO - Valokuvausalan ontologia VALO
Agriculture and Forestry
Health
In our work on semantic health portals e.g. the following ontologies/vocabularies have been used.
- Medical Subject Headings (MeSH, FinMeSH)
- The European Multilingual Thesaurus on Health Promotion (HPMULTI) - Terveyden edistämisen sanasto TESA/HPMulti
Biology
SeCo is developing and publishing together with the Finnish Museum of Natural History and other partners several ontologies/vocabularies of organisms, such as Birds of the World ontology AVIO and Mammals of the World ontology MAMO.
